Since the gift-giving season will soon be upon us this week, I wanted to start sharing some toys I have found really useful for my treatments and toys that my patients’ parents have also recommended.
Today’s Toy Talk is about Fisher-Price’s Rock, Roll ‘n Ride Trike
Fisher-Price Rock, Roll ‘n Ride Trike
Kids typically learn to pedal a tricycle around 2.5 years, or when their legs are long enough to reach the pedals :).
This is a great tricycle to start with because it can start off as a rocking toy when your child is too short to reach the pedals since it has a resting foot plate for them until they can reach the pedals. Having your child sit on the tricycle in the rocking position can help improve their sitting balance as you rock them, and can also be used to have your child practice getting on/off the tricycle.
The seat on this tricycle can also be moved backwards as your child gets taller so they can continue using the tricycle.
The handle when the toy is in the tricycle position also makes it easy to push your child and help them pedal. The pedals rotate as the tricycle is pushed, which can help your child learn how to move their feet with the pedals.
The toy is plastic, including the wheels, so it can be used outside for some time, but is probably not as sturdy as more standard tricycles that older kids use. But it is great for indoor use on both carpet and tile. I have kids pedal on carpet to work on their leg strength since they have to push harder to pedal 🙂
